The next step towards development of biodegradable elastomeric templates for heart tissue engineering 12.10.2017 20:48

The next step towards development of biodegradable elastomeric templates for heart tissue engineering has been finalized with success. The work has been performed in a frame of HARMONIA project (grant UMO-2014/14/M/ST8/00610), financially supported by the National Science Centre. The project is performed in collaboration with Prof. Daniel H. Wagner from The Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel), prof. Joachim Kohn from The New Jersey Centre for Biomaterials (NJ, OSA) and Prof. Judit E. Puskas from The University of Akron (OH, USA). A truly 3D platforms (scaffolds) have been prepared from biodegradable polymers synthesized from non-toxic monomers and enzymes as catalysts. A specific 3D structure has been achieved due to helically coiled nano- and microfibres suitable for cardiomyocytes proliferation.
